This Friday features the gentle giant of the sea, the whale shark. Whale sharks are filter feeders and can neither bite nor chew. They process more than 6,000 liters of water an hour through their gills, collecting small shrimp, fish, and plankton. They migrate thousands of miles at a rate of about 3 miles per hour. Plastic pollution, which could cause entanglement or be ingested, especially by these filter feeders, is a huge threat to these amazing animals.
