PROJECT 53 FOR $53 - #37-53
Ranging from forests of Florida and northern Mexico all the way to Alaska and Canada, the American black bear is found only in North America. Up to 85% of the American black bear's diet consists of vegetation. They prefer nuts, acorns, fruit, insects, succulent greens; and, they will eat meat and less succulent greens when preferred foods are scarce. Lean bears can exceed 30 mph! They can climb trees and are great swimmers. American black bears typically avoid confronting humans.
In current times, American black bear fatalities are mainly attributable to human activities. From legal hunting to illegal poaching, and vehicle strikes, humans are the greatest danger to black bears. Find more facts at www.bear.org
