This grin belongs to a spawning sockeye salmon! The crazy transformation occurs as the fish returns to the rivers to spawn. The sockeye that does not migrate to the sea, but lives its entire life in fresh water,  is known as a kokanee salmon. Sockeye salmon are semelparous, meaning they die after they spawn. This piece is hand-drawn with pencil and painted with watercolors. The stock is a standard watercolor paper (approximately 300 gsm) and is 9 inches by 12 inches.
