With the elk rut in full swing in multiple locations, I thought I would try to paint one. Also known as wapiti, elk are found in North America, as well as central and east Asia. Elk are some of the largest mammals in North America, with males in some subspecies weighing up to 900 pounds. Bulls need that mass to brandish a formidable set of antlers, as a set of antlers on a mature bull can weigh up to 40 pounds!
