PROJECT 53 FOR $53 - #27-53
This amazing pattern belongs to an eagle ray! Found globally in tropical regions, they consume small fish and crustaceans. The rays are considered near threatened on the IUCN Red List with a decreasing population trend.
Each and every ray has a unique pattern making their skin like a fingerprint. This enables scientists to use photographs of the rays to identify individuals without having to tag the animals. Anyone with a camera—scientists or non-scientist—can help with population monitoring in these species. It's like they had QR codes before it was cool.
This original piece is a 6"x6" india ink piece on a 9"x12" 300gsm watercolor paper. Only one currently available. Email if you have questions or want more information.
