ORIGINAL - ARCTIC CHAR
ORIGINAL - ARCTIC CHAR
This stunning fish is the breeding male Arctic Char. Usually a brown to greenish-brown with white and pink to red spots, they present bright colors varying from gold, orange, yellow or pink. Native to Arctic and subarctic coasts and lakes of high elevations, there is no other species of fish found at a higher latitude. They've been found in the Canadian Arctic, Greenland, Iceland, Scandinavia, Siberia, and Alaska.
Very similar to their cousins the Dolly Varden, they are easily confused for one another. Small differences can be observed from the tail, gill rakers, and overall size (Char can get bigger than the Varden). Regardless of which species, it is a truly beautiful fish. This piece is hand-drawn with pencil and painted with watercolors. The stock is a standard watercolor paper (approximately 300 gsm) and is 9 inches by 12 inches.
There can be other versions of this sketch with varying color schemes; however, this is not a print, digital copy, or printed reproduction. It was hand painted by the artist in February 2021.
